This is our second VIDEO BLOG Y’ALL!

Hurricane Season – theater for the eye of the storm

Things are changing rapidly around us.  Mother Earth is crying out.  We are giving more than we are taking.  Spoken Word artists ALIXA + NAIMA put together a two-womyn show to pull at your soul,  addressing our desensitization to global warming, global oppression, and the global water crisis.

We saw this show last Sunday.  It will inspire you into action…’cause no matter how small, we all have a duty to make change NOW!  Be an OAK TREE!

National Black Theater in Harlem:

FRIDAY, July 31 – 7:30

SATURDAY, August 1 – 7:30

SUNDAY, August 2 – 4:00

I don’t believe that GOD gives you enemies to teach you lessons, you are given family. Enemies are treacherous, conniving, and plain old mean. Family loves you, but love ain’t always pretty. However, love always secures itself to your greater good, your higher self. The issue is we haven’t been taught how to cultivate love, harness it, hone it towards our elevated placement. Therefore, our end result can be good intentions with baggages of drama. There is an urgency right now for us all to do the work, let go, love, and move ahead. Or rather, move into true love, one without judgement, suspicion and doubt. CREATOR, knows all things. Trusting and surrender are principle that we have been educated into thinking as weak and childish. Let us remember, however, it has been written that the only way to enter the kingdom of heaven is to be as a child. Learn the lessons in the people that reflect who you are. Observing the family at play around us is a great way to educate yourself about your self. Be happy and loving get upset, cry, let it all out! Everything is working towards your highest placement surrender to compassion and love, it takes a lot more guts then we think.

Hey everybody!  This our first little video blog entry.  Expect many more to come!

Brooklyn Travels – these are the good times!

We have been in NYC since last Tuesday, and so far things have been amazing!   Since arriving, we have been all over the city at workshops, concerts, and events.  On Wednesday, we hung out with CHALI2NA and ACEYALONE at a FREE Myspace show at SANTOS’ PARTY HOUSE.  Aceyalone was an impressive live performer with amazing vocal/lyrical stamina and gymnastics.  Chali2NA did his thing!  It was pleasure to meet him as well.  He was one of the most down-to-earth cats you could ever meet.  Check out his latest video LOCK S**T DOWN w/ Talib Kweli.

Last night, we saw Anita Baker at Wingate Field for FREE!  Only in NYC baby!  What can I say about Ms. Anita Baker? Her music is like soulful zen mediation.  Each note and riff sent ripples through my body.  Ghislaine was so touched, tears started to flow.  No joke!  We have been waiting to see her for years.  Every time we tried to go, we either didn’t have the money, or the time, so last night’s show was an incredible blessing that we will never forget.

Last Saturday, we hung out at a Block Party in front of the apartment where Ghislaine grew up.  The grills were burning, the music was blasting, the ganja was blazing, the children were playing, and the vibes were high.  It made me imagine and wonder what New York Block Parties must have been like when hip hop was in its infancy.  ELECTRICITY!

Check out this video of Trini band Natural Expression, rocking for the people!

The music was so energetic, and the vibes were so high, it inspired this dude to rejoice and give his praises on the spot!

Tomorrow we are going to a FREE LADY SMITH BLACK MAMBAZO show at the Brooklyn Academy of Music. And Thursday it’s Burning Spear FREE in Prospect Park.  Incredible!
